A Labor Day Surprise?

According to a new survey from Cyber-Ark, most IT staff would steal sensitive company information, including CEO’s passwords and customer details, if they were laid off.  88% of IT administrators admitted that if they were fired, they would take corporate secrets, included CEO passwords, their company’s customer database, research and development plans, financial reports, M&A plans and the company’s list of privileged passwords.  In addition a third would take the password list to gain access to financial reports, salaries and other privileged information.  In addition, the survey found that one third of IT staff admitted to snooping around the network, looking at highly confidential information, such as salary details and people’s personal emails.

Sweet.

With over 50% of IT employees either Reluctant or Unengaged, many of these employees will in fact be gone in the next two years according to the 2008-09 Employee Hold’em National Workforce Engagement Benchmark.  One in eight IT employees did not have a strong sense of belonging to their organization.  Three out of ten would leave their organization for another if they were paid just a little more money to go somewhere else.

Why?

  • Nearly one-quarter believed their pay was worse than other IT employees at other companies
  • Nearly one-quarter felt their stress level was worse than other IT employees at other companies
  • More than one-quarter stated their training and development was worse
  • More than one-quarter agreed their advancement opportunities were worse

Nasty stuff.

Happy Labor Day…

… you might want to change those passwords before you go on your long three day weekend!   Three days is an eternity in IT land!
