Sorry…
Wow, I missed a whole Wednesday. I’m not even going to try to explain. Excuses don’t help, explanations don’t get the blog written.
OK, enough of that. I’ve been busy with work-life balance issues…
My Joshie-boy graduated from college yesterday. Although it was raining in Granville, Ohio (right outside Columbus), it was sunny and bright inside. About 3,000 friends, family, and alum watched the 500+ “kids” stroll across the gymnasium to accept their degrees. And there was my son, called in the first 100 or so grads (one of the curses of having a name end in a “D”), smiling from ear to ear, his mortar board balancing precariously on his afro (what some might refer to as a jew-fro). Tears were being shed (by me and my lovely bride), as my younger son attempted to capture the moment with pictures… lots of them.
We got to help Joshie finish cleaning his room and packing. As a senior, he lived in an apartment with three other guys and the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness” never crossed their lips. However as a bunch of biology majors, they were impressed with the mold growing on their walls and the mushrooms growing out of the carpet.. OK, it wasn’t that bad, but it was close, very close.
Josh was going to drive his younger brother back to Indy with him last nite, however he got a call from his girl-friend (no, not a girlfriend, a girl-friend) who wanted to cook him dinner as a good-bye present. His 15 year old brother had a pretty good idea what was the entree and what was the dessert. Ah, to be a college man…
My friend and colleague Nora B. is going to help Josh with his resume as he starts his “career”. His dad has told him many times to “find your passion, and the fame and fortune will follow”. Easy to say as a 45 year old, harder to hear when you are 21. But I’m not worried, the fine folks at Denison have set Josh on a great track, and both my lovely bride and I look forward to watching his journey, wherever it takes him.
I’m here in Houston today getting ready for my three-hour pre-conference workshop. It’s the fourth year in a row for me here in TX, and I’m excited to be giving a new speech to a couple of hundred people…
More to follow from TX!
