It’s Rambling Wednesdays

I’ve decided to make my Wednesday post my “ramblings” day.  And away we go…

Schedule Your Heart Attacks for Better Outcomes

Studies have found that patients treated at hospitals on weekends have inferior outcomes when compared with those receiving care on weekdays.  In one of the largest studies, published last year in The New England Journal of Medicine, scientists followed 231,164 patients admitted to New Jersey hospitals from 1987 to 2002 for heart attacks.

They found that those admitted on weekends were less likely to receive aggressive treatment, and had slightly higher death rates (12.9 percent, versus 12 percent for weekday patients).

Another study listed in The Annals of Surgery in November, looked at 188,212 patients who had non-emergency surgery. Those who had their operations on a Friday and spent the weekend recovering on a regular hospital floor were 17 percent more likely to die in the following 30 days than those who had their operations earlier in the week.

Schedule Your Heart Attacks for Tuesdays For Better Outcomes

According to a recent survey, nearly six in ten executives (57%) said that employees seem to work hardest on Tuesdays, and least hard on Fridays (3%).  Makes the heart attack survey make sense…

When Love is in the Air at Work!

More than one third of all employees said they would consider dating a co-worker.  Nearly one in four office romances resulted in marriage.  Makes you wonder what happened to those other three!

Following His Dream

A good friend of mine is “re-inventing” himself after nearly a decade of being a very successful employee in a very successful company.  Kent is going to follow his passion, similar to what I did two years ago after founding Employee Hold’emI know it’s a scary time for Kent and his family.  You’ll do great.
