Ramblings…

  • The Bureau of Labor Statistics has published a list of occupations expected to shrink the most from 2006 to 2016. Cashiers, stock clerks, and baggers are the occupations expected to shrink the most. Each occupation is expected to shrink by more than 100,000 positions. Other occupations that will suffer losses include farmers, sewing machine operators, electronic equipment assemblers, punch and press operators, file and order clerks, and telemarketers.  OMG, FINALLY A DECREASE IN TELEMARKETERS!!
  • According to a newly released study, dislike of their boss’s management style or lack of mentoring would prompt 43 percent of U.S. workers to leave their jobs. Leaving for a better salary (36 percent) and the potential for growing in their career (34 percent) also would prompt them to leave, but having a good boss or supervisor is the most important factor in keeping them happy at work, 32 percent of the 1,200 surveyed office workers said.A majority of respondents want a boss who lets them work independently but is accessible when needed. Communication and listening skills top the qualities that U.S. workers want in a boss, followed by effective leadership skills and trusting that the employee will perform his or her job well.  EMPLOYEES QUIT A BOSS, NOT A COMPANY!
  • More than half of employers have had to discipline employees for wasting time on the Internet, according to new research from content security specialist Clearswift. But wasting time isn’t the only Internet-related activity that can get employees in trouble. Accessing inappropriate content in the workplace is also a problem. In fact, more than 46 percent of HR professionals surveyed have encountered or had to discipline employees for accessing pornographic sites at work. Another 14 percent of HR professionals have had to discipline employees for confidential data leakage, and 7 percent for posting inappropriate content on social media sites, blogs and wikis.  PLEASE RAISE YOUR HANDS IF YOU KNOW WHAT THE HECK A WIKI IS!!
