Like We Needed This Survey

You know I’m in the process of getting my own health insurance, as COBRA is about over.  Ah the joy.  Perhaps it’s one of the reasons I am talking so much about an entitlement mentality when it comes to insurance for employees.  And, living in Indiana, insurance is a little more expensive than other places.  Here is why:

Among the 50 states included in WellPoint’s  State Health Index, Indiana had an overall health ranking of 43.  It’s great being in the 80 percentile…  Breaking it down further:

  • Ranked 29 in Maternal and Prenatal care
  • 37 in Behavioral health
  • 42 in Lifestyle
  • 43 in Preventive Care
  • 43 in Morbidity and Mortality
  • 50 in Cigarette smoking rate (We’re Number One!!!)

So, if we cost more, should we pay more?  Am I the only one who sees things clearly?  It is not the job of business to insure their employees.

It’s the job of business to stay in business.
